Once Upon a Time ... The Story of Train Signal
Six
years ago today, Train Signal was born into the business world, small in a size,
with a single proud parent … me!
I founded this company because I loved technology, teaching and helping others.
Today, we have close to 20 employees, exhibit at Microsoft’s TechEd conference
and we were just named as one of Inc. Magazine’s 5000 Fastest Growing Companies.
The great thing, is that I still love technology, teaching (working with) my
employees/customers and helping others out however I can. I also love running
this company; working with my colleagues, communicating with customers and
providing training that can make a difference in people’s lives.
Looking back, I am very proud of how far we have come and everything that we
have accomplished but I am even more excited about the future of Train Signal
and all of the new products, features and services that we have in store for our
customers.
We have come a long way since 2002 but our core values are the same:
- Create the Best Computer Training on the Planet
- Take care of People and People will take care of you
Thank you to all of our customers and employees. Without either of you, Train
Signal would be nothing. You (all of you!) are the reason for our success; we
wouldn’t be here without you!
So how are we going to take care of you?

Microsoft Certifications -- Past and Future
Hello,
my name is Dave Lawlor and I am a certified geek!
Not the best introduction in the world, but after spending close to 12 years in
the IT field with my very first certification coming in 1997 when I passed the
fledgling A+ certification, I have learned to embrace my inner geek.
Certifications can certainly open up your career path, or give you a leg up to
get an initial position, but are they everything they can be?
I remember when the first MCSEs came through. Back then Microsoft gave you a
TechNet Subscription when you achieved an MCSE, but the practice was soon
discontinued, I'm guessing because of the cost.
Very soon I started to feel that many certifications became watered down. Too
many "Paper MCSEs" were running around causing real world problems when they got
into a production environment.
They didn't have the hands on experience to go with the certifications they
earned. A few of these going through an IT Managers shop and soon they would
sour on the Microsoft Certifications.

Work Smart -- Not Hard: Achieving Your IT Certification Goals
It
has been said — the price of mastery is thorough preparation.
I believe that wholeheartedly. How we prepare, though, can determine just how
high that price may be. Seriously, who wouldn't want to be able to achieve some
goal or objective in half the time, at half the cost?
Granted, there are those with an endless bankroll, but for the rest of us, we
usually have to make lemonade out of the lemons in our bank account. If you're
like me, you hate to spend money without seeing some kind of benefit.
As we look at the approach I've used to achieve my own certifications, you'll
find that I have a philosophy of efficiency: Work Smart, Not Hard.
Today we'll explore two fundamental questions: Where do I want to go? And, how
do I get there?
