Once you get your Windows Server 2008 up and running you can get right into installing Exchange 2007. And in this article I’ll walk you through the preparation and installation steps.

Before we get started, there are a few things you should be aware of. First off, if you have the RTM version of Exchange Server 2007 you need to download the Service Pack 1 before installing on Server 2008. SP1 includes all the necessary files for a successful Exchange 2007 install and makes the whole process as simple as installing to Windows Server 2003.

Another thing you need to know is that the prerequisites for installing Exchange 2007 on Server 2008 have changed quite a bit. Besides the usual minimum hardware requirements and network and software requirements you will need to have the .NET Framework (version 2.0 or 3.0), Windows PowerShell, and IIS 7.0 installed.

We’re almost ready for the installation steps; all that’s left is determining the Exchange Server roles that need to be installed. So let’s get started!
