The vSphere Client is the single management app that is used by VMware admins, everywhere, everyday. Installing it isn’t difficult but can take some time. When new versions of vSphere come out, it is necessary to run multiple versions of the client for testing but this isn’t possible when it is installed.
Now, a new “fling” from VMware Labs offers us a free version of the vSphere Client that has already been “ThinApped” using VMware’s application virtualization. You don’t have to download, install, or buy ThinApp to use this and the benefits include:
- Running multiple versions of the vSphere Client on the same desktop for testing new versions of vSphere
- Running the vSphere Client directly from a network share so you can execute it on any desktop you happen to be on
- Running the vSphere Client from a USB key with no install, making it completely portable
I appreciate VMware Labs and their engineers for making this invaluable tool able to run from anywhere, without an install. And I hope that they will do this for all future versions of the vSphere Client.
Try the new ThinApped vSphere Client for yourself for free and tell us what you think!
