In this CompTIA Network+ training video, I’ll go over some of the more advanced functions of switches. I’ll explain each function and give examples of when said functions are generally used.
You’ll learn about the following Advanced Switch Functions: Power over Ethernet (PoE, used to transfer electrical power along with data over standard twisted pair cables), the Spanning Tree Algorithm (STA, used to determing the best route when there is more than one connection to a node), Virtual LANs (VLANs, emulate multiple broadcast domains), Trunking (presents more than one VLAN configuration over a single connection), Port Mirroring (used to send a copy of network data to a second mirrored connection), and Port Authentication (used to restrict access based on authentication information).
If you haven’t already, be sure to watch my previous CompTIA Network+ training video on the Different Types of Switches available.
