In this Cisco CCNA training video, I’ll show you one example of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) in action. I’ll show you an example of two switches connected by two separate crossover cables. It’s important to note that all ports on the root switch will always be in forwarding mode. In this particular case, that means a total of three ports will be in forwarding mode with only one in blocking mode.
In this example, I’ll use telnet to connect to each switch and explain the different commands you can use to find out information about the Virtual LANs, ports, states, and a few different ways to find out which switch is the root switch.
The second example with three switches mentioned in the video above will be shown in a later video entitled Root Ports and Designated Ports.
