As a follow-up to our last Cisco CCNA training video, I’ll go into a second example showing the Spanning Tree Protocol in action. In this example, we’ll have a total of three switches within a network, fully meshed. When Virtual LAN 10 comes online, all three switches will at first believe they are the root bridge for said Virtual LAN.
As the video and example progress, I’ll explain the connection and start-up process, in its entirety, starting with the election process of Bridge IDs, the resulting election of a root switch, and the election of a root port on each switch based on port cost. We’ll also go over Designated Ports (DPs) and Non-Designated Ports (NDPs).
If you missed the first example of Spanning Tree Protocols in action, where we went over an example using only two switches, be sure to check out “STP in Action – STP Examples.”
