Last Saturday, several Train Signal team members got together to volunteer our time to help out with Habitat for Humanity. We worked on restoring a historic house in Elgin, IL that was built over a century ago. The house is being rehabbed to help a single mother and her three kids and we were really glad to be a part of this project.

Our job was not so much restoration, as we were actually tackling demolition of the old flooring in the house. We had to remove the tile flooring on the first and second floor of the house as well as the million nails and screws from the framing so that new drywall and floors can be put in the house at a later time.
We began early in the morning on the second floor. The girls tackled the framing, removing the nails and screws that covered the two-by-fours from floor to ceiling. The guys worked on removing the tile floors, which was a lot of work since over the years the layers of the floors just kept piling on.
It was extremely messy work and something that none of us were used to, but we really enjoyed the experience and we’ll definitely be back for another Habitat for Humanity day!
