Once Upon a Time … The Story of Train Signal

Six years ago today, Train Signal was born into the business world, small in size, with a single proud parent … me!

I founded this company because I loved technology, teaching and helping others.

Today, we have close to 20 employees, exhibit at Microsoft’s TechEd conference and we were just named as one of Inc. Magazine’s 5000 Fastest Growing Companies.

Train Signal in Inc. Magazine's 5000 Fastest Growing Comapnies

The great thing, is that I still love technology, teaching (working with) my employees/customers and helping others out however I can. I also love running this company; working with my colleagues, communicating with customers and providing training that can make a difference in people’s lives.

Looking back, I am very proud of how far we have come and everything that we have accomplished but I am even more excited about the future of Train Signal and all of the new products, features and services that we have in store for our customers.

We have come a long way since 2002 but our core values are the same:

  • Create the Best Computer Training on the Planet
  • Take care of People and People will take care of you

Thank you to all of our customers and employees. Without either of you, Train Signal would be nothing. You (all of you!) are the reason for our success; we wouldn’t be here without you!

So how are we going to take care of you?

1. The Best Computer Training on the Planet!

Train Signal is obsessed — committed — dedicated to creating the "Best Computer Training on the Planet". We call this BCTP for short and every one of our instructors has this drilled into their heads and lives it, breathes it and dreams it.

We will continue to improve and innovate our training. We will ALWAYS be committed to creating the Best Computer Training on the Planet for our customers. It is a core, fundamental Train Signal value and we make company decisions based on it.

2. Gifts, Prizes, Presents … You Get the Idea

I met with Kasia, Train Signal’s Blog Coordinator, and Iman, our Director of Sales and Marketing, and we decided to give away as much as possible!

Just an Xbox, iPod or complete set of training wasn’t enough … we wanted to give away more and to as many people as possible.

I think that Kasia and Iman have done quite a job of loading up the sleigh (get the details and a complete list of prizes here).

Throughout the year, we will continue to give more back to you, our customer.

3. Questions & Feedback

Do you have questions that you want to ask me? Business, personal or somewhere in between, fire away!

I will answer as many as I can right here in the comments of this post. Or give us some feedback on how to make our products better or how we can better take care of you … I am interested in hearing what you have to say!

And you can follow me on Twitter to keep up to date on all of my happenings: http://twitter.com/trainsignal.

Thanks again to all of you.

Sincerely,
Scott Skinger
Founder and President

Congrats, on train signal’s birthday. Let me be the first to say that your training has changed my life forever. I was once a admin with limited skills and thought that my job would be on the line. But thanks to your training i am one of the best server admins in my company. Thank you for starting this company because you are making a difference.

    Hi Demetrius-

That is very nice to hear! That’s the reason I started this company in the first place. The real credit goes to you though for putting in all of the hard work and effort to get to the level you are at. One of big buzz phrases here (from Tony Robbins!) is CNEI, Constant, Never-Ending Improvement. I think this especially applies to the IT world. Good luck and keep working on CNEI.

Four years ago, I was charged with implementing exchange server 2003 in my environment. I had a choice. Spend the $30,000 that was earmarked for the project before I was hired, or do it myself and save the company $30,000 in the process. Someone introduced me to TrainSignal and the rest is history. Needless to say, I bought your 2003 exchange server training video and (this is how easy to follow and very intuitive the training was) i installed exchange server via VPN from my house on a friday night, by saturday morning mail was flowing just like the mississippi river has done for centuries.

Thanks again Scot for making some of us the best admins we can be. Your product is superb and real world proven. I am on the verge of upgrading to exchange 2007 and guess what I did two weeks ago…I ordered your video and now I am getting ready to upgrade soon.

You are there for more people than you may think.

    Happy Birthday…

    Sebastian

    Congraualtions for you Scott.
Your Training courses helped me a lot to improve my skills in Networking and other computer support.
I am working for the wolds biggest CNC producer Fanuc GE. A joint venture between Fanuc Japan and GE as you may know.
Even more and more CNC Controlls are built in groups and set in to PC networks.
So Network and other knowledge is important.
By the earned knowledge through the training I baught from your site, I can forward a first class Service to our customers and also for support in our swiss banch office.
I have got to be an asset to the company though.

hi the school i work for purchased this for me (i managed to get them to buy the whole course)

in my eyes “The Best Computer Training on the Planet!” already. I will never need to look else where as i get what i need from your CBT’s.

I have tried classroom training, and home study, no one comes near your your CBTs.

Having TS CBT’s is like having your own instructor waiting for you to indicate what element you want to study/learn (pop in the cd, run the lab and off you go!)
If you need to review a particular point just keep replying it! (imagine asking a real instructor to keep repeating a certain point you need to here several times!!!!!!!

Thanks Scott for the virtual classroom you have made avialable for me to attend WHEN I WANT!

    Hi Scott

I’ve been a big fan of Trainsignal since I accidentally stambled on it five years ago…ever since I continue to use your superb products.

One question though, what inspired you to name your company “TrainSignal”. I’m curious above how you came up with an excellent idea which you named your company.

    Godbless.

    Hey Leo-

Thanks for commenting! Originally I was looking for a name that incorporated train or training, had an available .com domain and had a good ring to it. I struggled for several weeks trying to come up with a name.

The name came to me while riding a Metra train into Chicago. We were at a passenger stop and I noticed the train signal flashing. I liked the ring of “TrainSignal” and upon checking later, TrainSignal.com was available.

Looking back now I’m very happy with the name and the brand we have been able to build around it. Much like Yahoo, Amazon or many others, your name is only as good as the brand recognition you can build around it.

Thanks for asking the question and let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help you out!

    Scott
