Technology events like TechEd, Cisco Live and VMworld are a great way to get ahead in your career, gain new insights and expertise, learn about emerging technologies and meet experts in your field. A day or two at a tech conference can also be a nice break from your normal routine and a great opportunity to share your ideas, get your questions answered and build connections with other IT pros.
Here’s a list of some great upcoming events that are worth checking out in 2010.
Microsoft TechEd 2010: June
Microsoft’s a href=”http://northamerica.msteched.com/?fbid=duc35neCgOB” title=”Microsoft TechEd 2010″>TechEd is an annual conference for IT professionals and developers with a focus on education. This year the event is four days long and held in four locations around the world. The Middle East and India TechEd events happened in March and April, but there are still three more TechEd events to come:
- New Orleans, LA: June 7th – 10th
- Gold Coast, Australia: August 24th – 27th
- ICC, Durban, South Africa: October 17th – 20th

Cisco Live 2010: June
As you might have guessed, Cisco Live is the place to be for networking professionals using Cisco technologies. The focus of Cisco Live is on education with hundreds of training sessions available covering different Cisco technologies. It’s also a great networking opportunity allowing you to connect with Cisco experts, partners and peers.

VMworld 2010: August & October
Similar to TechEd and Cisco Live, VMworld’s focus is also on education. WMworld offers information sessions and hands-on labs on virtualization technologies and cloud computing. As with the other big events, it’s also a great networking opportunity for any IT pro.
This year VMworld is coming to two cities:
- San Francisco, CA: August 30th – September 2nd
- Copenhagen, Denmark: October 12th -14th

TechMentor 2010: October
TechMentor is an educational conference for IT professionals with a focus on Windows. This is definitely a more specialized event for experienced network admins looking for cutting edge training on topics like PowerShell, virtualization, security, Exchange, SharePoint, etc.
This year TechMentor came to Orlando in March and will be coming to Las Vegas from October 18th – 22nd. More information about the pas and upcoming TechMentor events can be found at techmentorevents.com.
Novell BrainShare 2010: May
Novell’s BrainShare event has already passed for the Salt Lake City location, but if you’re interested in taking a trip to Amsterdam then you can still register for event in May. This year the focus of BrainShare is on Linux, virtualization and workload management as well as business service management, offering over 90 technical sessions for IT pros to attend.

A couple of smaller free tech events are also making their rounds across the US.
Microsoft Office 2010 Launch
With 15 dates and 15 locations, the Microsoft Office 2010 Launch will focus on more than just Office 2010 — SharePoint 2010, Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2 are also making a debut attracting both IT professionals and developers.

VMware Express Virtualization Tour 2010
VMware is taking a slightly different approach, with the VMware Express — a mobile briefing center which will be visiting a number of locations in the US and Canada, from April through December.
It’s a great opportunity to learn about VMware View, vSphere, vCenter and more without having to travel — the VMware Express comes to you.
