More Trouble with Troubleshooting??
Today I watched the more advanced video on troubleshooting and preventative maintenance which covers the PC technician exam objectives. And when I say “more advanced” — I mean they’re a lot more advanced. I had to do some extra reading, research and note taking to even start comprehending this stuff. If you’re getting ready to watch this video — beware — it’s a lot of stuff …
In my last post on troubleshooting, which was way back at the beginning of my CompTIA A+ journey, I was very excited about the whole concept. I was all giddy when I got to help my brother with his overheating computer. I thought this is so cool!
Of course, this was when I only knew a few things and when I thought this was easy; now is a different story.
Don’t laugh … but it really took me at least 20 minutes to find my IRQs in Vista, and I still have to memorize all 16 of them … ugh

But enough complaining; I might not be able to find a solution to just any problem off the top of my head, but I definitely know where to look for answers and that’s a good start. And with enough practice and some hard-core cramming I can be awesome at this. After all, I love problem solving!
Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. The PC technician objectives covered in this video include:
1.0 Personal Computer Components
1.2 Identify tools, diagnostic procedures and troubleshooting techniques for PC components
1.3 Perform preventative maintenance of PC components
David Davis does a great job of going over the basic diagnostics, software and hardware tools used to resolve problems, preventative maintenance tasks, and lots more. There’s also a surprise quiz at the end of this video (which, I’m a bit ashamed to admit, I failed), so pay attention and be ready for it.
