Hello,
My name is Hoa, I just passed Network+ on May 4th, 2010. My next step will be either A+ or Security+. I need your advice: Should I take A+ now or Security+ now?
I have more than 2 years experience in desktop support, install OS (Windows, Linux), however I do not have much experience about Security. Please help.
By the way, I watched the demo videos and they are very impressed. I already purched A+, and Security+ practice exam from transender, if I buy your security+ and A+ videos from your company should I have discount?
Thanks
Hi Hoa,
First off, congratulations on passing your Network+ exam!
Whether you should take your A+ or Security+ next depends on where you’d like to take your career. Are you interested in working as a computer support technician or would you rather focus on network security? Does your current job require these certs? Also, take a look at some of the job descriptions and ads for positions that you’d like to apply for and see what the requirements are.
The A+ certification is an entry level cert that will definitely get your foot in the door, but it’s not going to take your career to the next level. Security knowledge on the other hand is in much more demand and it might open up more opportunities for you.
Another way to look at it might be from the perspective of your current knowledge — take both of the practice exams and see where you stand with regards to the content. You might find that you can pass the A+ with just a bit of study, while the Security content is totally new and will require more preparation.
In either case, the decision is truly yours and there is no wrong way to go about it. I hope this helps and feel free to email me if you have any other questions at kasia[@]trainsignal.com
Now, regarding the practice exams you purchased, call us when you’re ready to order your training and we’ll see what we can do for you, ok?
Good luck with your studies! Let us know what you decide on!
