Sometimes you need to give external partners access to the SharePoint site, and these users fall outside of the company domain. Alternate Access Mappings allow you to create different URLs to access a SharePoint site, and also let you set different authentication zones for those URLs. SQL Storage isn’t always optimal for SharePoint sites, whether due to the storage size limitations, unfamiliarity with managing SQL or other issues. Remote BLOB Storage (RBS) allows you to move large binary data like documents and media out of SQL and onto a local NTFS volume.
